As part of Deakin Week we have hosted our first Community Education presentation which was delivered by Dr Paul Collins. Dr Collins presented a fantastic overview of sports technology and the speed in which this area of engineering and materials technology is growing.

Dr Collins is the team leader for Sports Technology at Deakin University and the Project Manager for the Deakin Quiksilver Research and development partnership, his work focuses on the link between technology and human performance through materials, design and interaction. His presentation was a wonderful showcase of the rise of sports technology over the years. It provided a great introduction to the participants who included representatives from the surfing industry, interested students, teachers and athletes.

Deakin University also launched its new Bachelor of Engineering Science (Sports Technology/Medical Technology) which will be offered for the first time at the Geelong Waurn Ponds campus in 2013.

Throughout 2013 BioLAB aim to build a Community Education Calendar which will provide a number of general interest presentations about science and mathematics of sport and human performance. These will be aimed at teachers, students and any member of the community that would like to know a little bit more about the wonderful science and technology occuring in our region. Our lead partners Deakin University will be featured in many of these sessions to showcase the fantastic research applications, carer pathways and opporutnities in science and mathematics.
