Eye In The Sky (VCE)

Secondary ProgramsOnsite & Outreach

Eye in the Sky uses cutting edge GPS athlete tracking equipment to provide real time feedback measurements of distance, speed and heart rate.

Students will analyse and generate their very own primary data sets in areas such as work to rest ratios, movement and locomotor patterns, and skill frequencies. Individual student reports and video footage will be provided following the program by the BioLAB education team.

This is a wonderful way to look at performance and game analysis in sport and has many applications across Physical Education, Mathematics and Science.

Students will:

  • Predict and identify positions that will cover the most distance and / or at the quickest speeds.
  • Identify ways that technology can improve performance.
  • Use GPS equipment to monitor workload (in training & competition) + return from injury.
  • Interpret GPS data representations of distance over time.

Learning Intention:

To understand how data collected using technology can improve performance.

Success Criteria:

  • Discuss at least two advantages and disadvantages of objective and subjective performance measures.
  • Identify at least two ways that technology can improve performance.
  • Compare GPS distance (m), speed (m/s) and heart rate (bpm) differences in a game or activity analysis.
  • Interpret GPS data representations of distance over time.
  • Explain how heart rate data could be used to improve performance.
