This event is part of the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series, providing free extension opportunities for high-ability students in Victorian Government Schools. Funded by the Department of Education’s Student Excellence Program.
Genetics in Sport is a free incursion/onsite program designed for extension and enrichment of high ability students.
This program provides specialist educational experiences themed around sport and human performance. It includes a 1.5 hour incursion to your school/or visit to our centre and is complimented by online resources. (Please note: we have limited availability for incursions)
Genetics in Sport will see students use cutting edge technologies to explore the use of genetics and screening in athlete performance and sporting success.
The sessions include discussions about how biotechnology is used in current scientific research and further post program resources will be provided that are designed to deepen the understanding of current examples of this fast paced and relevant area of STEM. Students will also engage with post program challenges such as scientific poster design, video presentations, or written scientific reports. These resources will be designed to complement the student experience and also give the teachers the opportunity to extend and challenge students using different scientific enquiry skills. The pre and post program resources will encourage students to work collaboratively to build connections and promote interaction.
